As the holidays approach and we begin to focus more and more on Jesus' arrival, my mind keeps tracking to the upcoming 40 Day Sugar Fast that we will begin on January 4th.
While this fast is completely voluntary, I can already feel the enemy stirring anxiety within me about what I'm giving up. He's already throwing his fiery darts of doubt, self confidence, and worth at my heart, making me question the purpose and reasoning behind this fast.
"You won't make it 40 days. Don't you remember last time?"
"Why give up sweets, you know how good they make you feel."
"You're not going to get anything out of this."
"God won't hear you."
LIES! Every single one of them that he whispers---they're all lies.
Because I know that through Christ I can do ALL things (Phil. 4:13).
I know that there is fullness found in Christ alone (Eph. 4:13).
I know that whatever good works I dedicate to the Lord will see a turnaround (1Corin. 16:14).
And I know most of all, my God hears me when I pray to Him (John 16:23).
You see, the enemy knows that when people come together, fasting and praying, he cannot win. He cannot attack their thoughts, their hearts, or their families. He cannot come in and steal, kill, or destroy. His power is weakened when we stand together in faith; strong in Christ. So he will do anything he can to stop you before you start.
DON'T LET HIM WIN!
Friend, I know that giving up things that we love is hard. We fight to hold on, but when we truly let go, we see the blessings of Christ abound, much more than we could ever imagine.
"Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." Luke 6:38
What will you trade for Christ for 40 Days?
