The Little Old Lady by Robbie Trent, with pictures by Katherine Evans, is a mid-20th-century children’s book that retells a Christian Christmas story from a gentle, human perspective. In the story, a kindhearted little old lady lives alone in a small village. One evening, travelers come through her town seeking shelter as they follow a bright star in the sky. Though she has little to give, she offers what she can. Later, realizing she didn’t join them on their journey, she sets out to find the newborn child they spoke of—bringing her own simple gift.
